Jazz Up Your Company Facebook Page

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Looking for an inexpensive marketing idea to keep the attention of your Facebook audience and direct them to your website? Escape the boring uniformity of all those other Facebook pages and engage your fans (or “likers,” as the case may be) with some attractive branding. You can create your own custom tabs on your company Facebook page by adding the “Static FBML” app which you can get here. Once that is done you can start making your own branded tabs.

Here are seven great tab ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

1. Landing or Welcome page – Greet your viewers with a branded page telling them why they should fan you up instead of having your wall as the default. Check out what some of the bigger companies like Starbucks and Adidas have done on their welcome pages. Create your own special tab and then change your default landing tab in your wall settings.

2. Product Catalog or Lookbook tab – Show off your best sellers or seasonal items. Check out this example we created for Dav Rainboots. You can even add links straight to your website shopping cart if you want.

PSP-Weekly-Special13. Weekly Special – Offer discounts to keep people coming back again and again to see what’s new. It doesn’t require a whole lot of effort to change this out once a week. Weekly Specials will keep your audience engaged and give you another reason to update your status. You ARE updating the status on your company profile at least three times a week, aren’t you? Here is an example from our sister company, Pi Studio Printing.

4. Contests – Once you have enough of a FB following you can keep your fans interested by developing a contest and creating a tab on your page with all of the details. One of our clients who makes organic dog treats asked everyone to upload a pic of their dog and state which treats it prefers. We created a page for them to post the winner every month. People love to share pictures of their pets so it was a huge success and kept folks checking back to see if their dog won. What kind of contest could you initiate that would engage your biggest fans?

5. Testimonials – Place photos of your satisfied customers along with a short statement about why they love you so much on a tab. You can even ask for people to post photos of themselves with your product stating why they like it so much and voila! Instant testimonial. All you have to do is create a tab to place all of these posts on so they don’t disappear in the never-ending Facebook stream.

AV-Facebook6. Company History – Use this tab to spread the gospel of your brand showing how you became what you are today. This would be similar to your ABOUT US page on your own website and could even link directly to your ABOUT US page.

7. Coupons – This is a great way to get your special deals out to the public and get them coming in to your store or office right away. People love to feel special and get a good deal at the same time so make sure to have FACEBOOK FAN EXCLUSIVES. Create downloadable or printable coupons for this page.

Remember that your Facebook page is like a mini website showing off your brand. It is easy to change and sculpt your message on a daily basis. Develop a Social Media Strategy-Six Reasons Not to Hesitate Any Longer

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Confused-Social-MediaThese days, there is a lot of hype about the power of social media in business regardless of industry. While some people jumped right in and started engaging with online communities to build their brands, others hesitated a bit before getting their feet wet. Still, some people remain skeptical and have yet to take the social media dive. Here are six reasons to cannonball into social media’s pool of opportunity.

1. More and more people are online more and more regularly. In this current economic downturn you need to find the ever-elusive customer. It is a fact that the average person is spending more time online. The number of people doing so also increases daily. You must find them and engage them. Traditional advertising just isn’t working the way it used to. Magazine and newspaper subscriptions are way down because websites are providing the news much more quickly and in a more affordable manner. TV and print advertisements have become expensive. The popularity of consumer review sites like yelp.com are changing the way people think and shop.

New Year’s Design Resolutions-Get Your Creative Juices Flowing

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Canister-Hang-TagWe all have bad habits. Whether it’s an affinity for fast foods, use of Arial instead of Helvetica, or adoration for alcohol, there’s always room for improvement. Do you take too many trips to the coffee room during the course of a workday? Are you chatting with friends on Facebook instead of finishing those TPS reports?

This is for all the designers in the world. We feel your pain. We have compiled a list of our own New Year’s DESIGN Resolutions to benefit everyone who cares to read them. Let us all improve our capacities as designers together. Make them your own! Add to them!  The top 3 contributors to the ongoing list of New Year’s Design Resolutions will receive a Pi Design Creative Juice Canister! Come on, we know you all want one.

Does your elevator pitch have ‘em lining up?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Elevator-Biz-People-CropI have never been comfortable with networking. It’s not that I don’t like meeting people. I love going new places and chatting up folks. I just hate being forced to socialize in an arena where everyone is trying to sell themselves. I listen politely all the while dreading the moment when they will ask me, “So, what do you do?” (more…)

11 Ways to Ruin a Great Design

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

awesome-smAnother post from the purposely silly “This Looks Awsome” Series (yes, we know it’s spelled wrong. It was done on purpose to be silly, you nit)

  1. Create your project in any program with “Microsoft” in the name. You’d be better off finger-painting with mud on an old pizza box, dousing it with gasoline and throwing it briskly into a portal to hell.
  2. OPTIMA OPTIMA OPTIMA. Did I forget to mention that use of COMIC SANS will also immediately discredit you as a designer?     (more…)

Fascinating Paper Art

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Delaneys-Paper-stuff1My daughter has kept herself busy this summer creating origami animals and geometric shapes out of paper, Post-it notes in particular. I, too have always had a fascination with paper. I love the different textures and colors, especially those of the handmade variety. Fashioning something three-dimensional from a flat sheet requires extreme patience while completing a challenging combination of cutting and folding in just the right places. I have been amazed by the tiny things she does like the miniature presents in this photo. She will often cut a Post-it note down to a half inch square and fold microscopic origami cranes that sit on your fingertip

Another “Useful” iPhone App

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

We all love our iPhones here in the office but truly there are a lot of useless apps to waste your time out there. This cartoon is pretty funny and puts things into perspective a bit

I Heart Tron

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

OK, so I am a dork. But who didn’t love Tron back in the 80’s? Am I showing my age a bit? If you are a sci fi aficionado then you will enjoy this re-creation of the light bikes. It’s hysterically hokey but very well done. It reminds me of the furniture design course I took at CSULB where we had to make a chair out of nothing but cardboard that the teacher could actually sit in. Trust me, there were a few he was afraid to sit on.
